Dr. Sara Thurgood received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. She subsequently completed her medical education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, followed by an internship and residency in family medicine.
Dr. Thurgood is a member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners and will be board certified in December, 2017. During her years of medical education and training, she had several national publications and state-level presentations on the topics of postpartum depression, infant and maternal skin-to-skin care and the reduction of postpartum hemorrhage, the outpatient management of asthma, and integrative modalities for the non-pharmacologic management of chronic pain. For the past two summers, she served on the medical staff at Camp Nejeda in Stillwater, NJ, which serves children with Type 1 Diabetes.
Dr. Thurgood is a Hoover native, and in her free time enjoys being with her husband and three children, traveling, outdoor activities, sewing, crafting, and serving in her church as a children’s Primary teacher.
